“New York was his town, and it always would be.” Woody Allen “Manhattan” movie starts with these words. It is next illumination in the Woody Allen context, so it had to refer to the famous logo: “I NY” that Milton Glasser made pro bono and published in 1977 in order to tourist promotion of New York. The logo consist of red heart and black typography “American Typewriter” created in 1974 by Joel Kaden and Tony Stan. An inseparable part of the logo was an advertising song “I Love New York” broadcasted in years 1977-1980. Steve Karmen was its author (1) However, it does not become as popular as “New York New York” of Frank Sinatra with the words:

If you can make it there,

I’ll make it anywhere,

It's up to you,

New York, New York.

Or performed by the duo Jay Z and Alicia Keys New York State of Mind:

New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of

There’s nothin’ you can’t do

Now you’re in New York

These streets will make you feel brand new

The lights will inspire you

Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York

However, behind the heart lies legendary Native American curse that is connected with sins of the first settlers. The curse says that who will arrive to the Island will have torn heart between the country of origin and the Manhattan. My heart should be a warning to others to take the legend under consideration consciously making the decision to start a new life in this city. The work has been made from thirty one red flashing lamps integrated into a shape of the heart that was installed on a meter long steel square.

(1) The lyrics of the song: You're planning a long vacation / or just a day or two / you're finally on vacation / you're wondering what to do / you want some place that's different / you want some place that's special / you can have a great vacation in New York / And to say "I Love New York" / You can climb a mountain / And there's such great sailing / We can all go camping / 'Cause it's so exciting /

New York is different / You know, New York is special / You can have a great vacation in New York / ... / What a great vacation!
